Years ago, before I started on my journey to Financial Independence, I had a really hard time finding motivation. Every day seemed like a struggle, and I lacked motivation and energy to get anything done. What’s worse, I would often get up and just bounce through my day without a plan.
There were a lot of reasons for this. But at a certain point, I had had enough of this directionless meandering. This was also an inflection point in my life, where I knew something HAD TO CHANGE. We had just had our second child, and everything seemed out of control, and getting the most simple things done throughout the day seemed impossible.
I sought help and found it in an unlikely source. I met a wise experienced (read: older) gentleman who was a successful businessman who agreed to coach me a bit on life and business. He shared his simple productivity secret with me… When I stopped laughing and agreed to try it, it made a seismic difference in my life (see what I did there?)
It’s so simple that it will make you laugh as well…
People have been doing it since the Caveman days…
And I’ll share it with you:
Every morning, without fail, make your bed. Make it like your grandma is going to come inspect it. Make it like you are in basic training and your Drill Instructor is at your door. Make it in such a way that you are proud of the job that you did.
And that’s it…
Make your darn bed.
It seems so simple.

It seems simple because it is simple. But it will make a world of difference. There are many reasons why, and entire books have been written about how important your morning routine can be. All that I know has that it made a world of difference for me. If I make my bed in the morning, I tend to have a much better day than if I don’t, because I start the day with some structure and accomplishing something.
So maybe you are feeling overwhelmed with life, and don’t know where to start to take that first step. Try this and see if it makes a difference for you. Make your bed tomorrow morning. Make it as nicely as you can, and see where your day takes you!
